Dear All,

We are delighted to welcome you to our 5^th. T.I.H.A. Hunter Show & Go Sale.

Please note the following :

1. It is advised that all horses be on site in Mullingar Equestrian Centre before 9.30am on Tuesday 4^th. September. If you wish to travel up the evening before stabling will be provided on request. This can be arranged by contacting Mulllingar Equestrian Centre directly.
2. On arrival, horses must report to the office with (a) Horses Pass Port (b) Veterinary Certificate – without both of these documents horses cannot be included in the sale.
3. Riders are advised to wear full hunting gear & horses must be turned out to a high standard.
4. 4. Once your horse has been selected for the sale, under NO circumstances can he/she be sold prior to the sale, anyone in breach of this ruling will not be accepted in any future T.I.H.A. Sales.
5. It is hoped to have the first horse on the track at 11.am.. Horses will run in strict numerical order for the jumping phase & the auction. No exceptions. ! Every effort will be made to accommodate riders who have multiple rides provided you inform us on the ‘acceptance form’ .

• Thoroughbred Mares with National Hunt Pedigree, in foal or with a foal at foot by : (a) Approved Irish Sport Horse Stallions provided that such stallions are of Thoroughbred/ I.D. cross (b) Class 1. Connemara Pony Stallions (c) Class 1 , I.D. Stallions or Class 2   I.D. Stallions approved in the I.S.H. Stud Book.
• Irish Draught Mares who have achieved Class 1, or R.I.D. status in the I.D. (a) For two year old Traditionally Bred Fillies, suitable for producing High Quality Traditionally Bred Sport Horses

(i. e. No continental breeding in their pedigrees)                                                                          

(b) Fillies must have been registered as foals in the I.H.R. as foals MUST be by :

Approved   :

Thoroughbred Stallions, Connemara Stallions, ISH Stallions, Irish Draught Stallions OR any cross of the aforementioned.

© Dams of the fillies must also be by the Stallions as above & registered in the I.H.R.

T.I.H.A. Hunter Performance Championship

The aim of this class is to encourage a higher standard of production in the 5 year olds’ and upwards traditionally bred horses, with a view to increasing their market value for the home and export markets. Horses competing in this class should be quality animals, well mannered, athletic, careful and capable of jumping a course of fences to include working hunter /show jumping style (max. height 1.m) .

They will be required to display smooth upward and downwards transitions to include leg yielding, lengthening and shortening at canter over fences , landing on correct leads and at all times showing good balance, self carriage and rhythm.

Marks will be awarded for the following – Balance, Athleticism (Ability/Scope) Accuracy, Technique, Movement, Attitude, Conformation & Ride-ability

Prize Fund:

Champion: €600 and €150 to the breeder, Reserve : €400 – and €100 to the breeder, 3^rd: €250 – and €50 to the breeder, 4^th: €150- and €50 to the breeder, 5^th. €100- and €50 to the breeder

Open to Traditionally Bred animals 4 years old and over. Riders must be over 16years of age. Competitors will be required to jump a variety of fences ( Average height 1m approximately).                                       In the event of equal scores – TIME will decide.

Prize Fund: 1^st €250, 2^nd €150, 3^rd €80, 4^th €60, 5^th €40 .

TRADITIONAL IRISH HORSE PRESS RELEASE

 

“Ancestral genetics of the Irish Hunter are likely to be the key genetic influence in the Traditional Irish Horse and may comprise a unique genetic signature”

9th August 2017 Ballsbridge Dublin Horseshow -The Traditional Irish Horse Association (TIHA) along with Horse Sport Ireland Director Alison Corbally and Prof. Emmeline Hill, Chief Science Officer for Plusvital joined together at the world famous Dublin Horseshow to discuss Professor Hill’s ongoing research into the Traditional Irish Horses’ DNA.  Seamus Davis (TIHA) touched upon the 2000 year history of the Traditional Irish Horse against a backdrop showcasing the diversity of the Traditional Irish Horse one of which to the spectators' delight was the famous (ISH) (TIH) 5* Ardcolum Duke .

“Plusvital is delighted to have established a collaboration with the TIHA and Horse Sport Ireland to investigate the unique genetic properties of the Traditional Irish Horse’ said Professor Hill. Modern DNA technologies allow Plusvital to determine the ancestral influences at the DNA level, which may be useful in situations where pedigree is not always available” said Prof Hill. Using DNA from almost 150 horses from 8 breeds to look for genetic similarities and differences the research has found five principal ancestral influences in the Irish Sport Horse. “Our preliminary data indicates that the TIH has considerably less, almost negligible, warmblood ancestry than other Irish Sport Horses and is comprised mostly of ancestral Irish Hunter genetics. The ancestral genetics of the Irish Hunter is likely to be the key genetic influence in the TIH and may comprise a unique genetic signature.”

Commenting on the research project, spokesperson for the TIHA Chris Ryan said “Firstly the TIHA would like to take the opportunity to thank Prof. Hill (Plusvital) for joining us today and Horse Sport Ireland's breeding department for their support and collaboration.  The ongoing scientific research and findings when finalised we hope will lead to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Traditional  Irish Horse genetics.

Chris Ryan (TIHA) said “Going forward it is all about improving the breed and their performance using data and genetics of merit alongside the shared sentiment for breeding and conserving the Traditional Irish Horse”.  It has been an exciting and informative year for the TIHA.  The TIHA understand the power of working together as an industry and the benefits. Ryan adds “ As an Association we have had some fantastic outcomes this year, data and science will become a crucial part of the foundation on which to build”.

Prof. Hill’s genetic research project is very timely.  The Association has for many years advocated conserving the remaining top quality genetics of the TIH mare population. Coupled with a higher standard of breeding and production, it is the intention of the TIHA. and its policies to increase the market value of traditional Irish stock for the home and export markets working with stakeholders and breeders at all times.
